Niamh,

A little thankyou!

Reaching over 100 likes and 200 views is such an amazing achievement for us Wanderlust bloggers. After many failed attempts of making, and sticking, to a blog, it feels so amazing to have reached this within 4 days! We can’t thank our 25 followers enough. Our next goal is to reach 100 followers on this blog, it may not seem like much but to us it would mean loads.

Thanks again!

EEZ EH in Alicante

Recently my family took a trip to the well loved Spanish destination by many scots, Alicante.

My family saw this trip as a relaxing holiday by the beach drinking (insert drink) and spending 16 relaxing days sunbathing from sunrise until sunset.

The day had arrived! The day my holiday was going to get somewhat Crazy. Generally Scotland is known for having the absolute best crowds at gigs and I have experienced my fair share but one thing I have never experienced is 20,000 Spanish people going crazy for a band, a band who don’t even speak the same language. Personally I found that magical.

This truly shows that people can connect through music.

Nature at Heart- The Hermitage, Scotland

Complete serenity and clarity are the feelings you achieve if you are to ever visit the Hermitage in Scotland. In my opinion, the best time to visit is in Autumn (when I went), when you are surrounded by an array of colours ranging from dark moss green to golden yellow to fire red. Yes, I suppose you could see these colours on trees a bit closer to home but what makes the Hermitage stand out is the crisp white waterfall that cascades down the mountain.

This brilliant white makes the surrounding trees show off even more and offers a contrast to the autumnal colours. Once at the top of the mountain you can gape at the marvellous views which make you feel one with nature. A truly beautiful sight to see and great to explore with friends whilst getting a bit of exercise too! It may not be near Edinburgh but it certainly is a tourist hotspot for those who prefer the calmness of nature rather than the busy city streets.

One of my many adventures in the Golden State of America was camping on the beach that my family OWNS. That’s right, they own a beach?! Anyway my cousin took us to stay for one night and the amount of nature we saw was phenomenonal. I swam 1 foot away from 6 sea otters (which by the way was scarier than you might think), came across a black widow, held a grasshopper, saw a whale, a herd of cows, an American Eagle and many adorable chipmunks.

My dad, brother and cousin all had the opportunity to shoot guns at cans but me and my mum were too afraid basically and went to the beach to get as far away from the loud booms as possible.

Waking up to the sound of crashing waves and sitting on the old bench on the edge of the cliff and drinking hot, sweet tea with the salty air, was…bliss.

The only downside to this trip was that my cousin has a strong love for country music…

Autumn is coming once again

Autumn time is almost upon us; falling leaves and chilly nights, with pumpkin spice and cinnamon flavoured everything. Darkened skies and woolen jumpers makes it the best time of the year. Not to mention Halloween and awful scary movies, it really is my favourite season.

Paper Towns Review

Today, a group of us here at Wanderlust Blog thought that the time had come to see the adaptation of Paper Towns, a novel by John Green. Some of us had read the book, while others hadn’t. I personally found the book okay, but the movie was far better balanced between Quentin’s moping and the hilarity of his companions.

The stand-out performance however, was Q’s best friend Ben, played by Austin Abrams. I cannot express how much I loved his performance in this movie. I was laughing in that hardly breathing way, where you’re not sure if you’re crying or laughing, the kind that usually only happens in the midst of a group of friends who know each other well and have made an inside joke that nobody outside the group would have blinked an eye at. I felt like I was somehow in on all of Ben’s jokes and innuendos and was laughing as hard as his friends were. Ben, throughout the movie, provides comic relief from Q’s frankly obsessive behavior towards Margo – an example that many people may not have caught was when the gang arrived at the shack in Agloe, New York, and everyone is very somberly searching for Margo. Then, slightly blurry in the background, all you see is Ben hitting the ground with a very large stick. Also, his thing about Q’s mum was just hilarious. I felt like the only time Q was funny was when Ben was there for him to converse with.

Margo, portrayed by the model Cara Delevingne caused a little controversy between myself, Morgan, and my friend, Catie. The bushy eyebrow-ed Margo’s personality was both admired and, well, slightly detested by us bloggers. On one hand, Morgan saw Cara’s different view on life as the way society should see the world.

I’ve lived here for eighteen years and I have never once in my life come across anyone who cares about anything that matters.

After hearing Margo’s strong view, it seemed to contrast with the fact that she then proceeded to leave behind her mother, father, little sister and all of her friends the next day. Margo cant seem to stick to an opinion, can she? She also doesn’t end up going to prom with Q and this left me with an unsatisfied feeling in my stomach as I left the cinema. Oh well, aside from the character, Cara’s acting was excellent in the film and we’re glad she’s enjoying her new career as an actress.

Overall the film gives off a positive vibe as the group of close friends are having fun for the first and, sadly, for the last time.

I recently visited the mesmerising California with my family and ended up staying in the gorgeous Tahoe. My selfless family accommodated us with their authentic log cabin which was a delight to stay in. As soon as we pulled up in the driveway the fresh, pine air filled our lungs.
During our stay we were taken on my family’s speedboat out onto Lake Tahoe and me and my brother decided to go for a swim (and as I was bursting for the toilet I decided that this was a good idea) but I just couldn’t get the courage to jump in the water so I ended up being pushed in by him and as the freezing water took my breath away I exclaimed “Oh God! It’s too cold to even pee!” After this I was wrapped up in a towel and was warmed up by holding my 8 month old cousin, Scotland (who was soon fast asleep by the gentle rocking of the boat).

Photos to Inspire

Here, we all have this wondrous dream of travelling, exploring, discovering and having a life to remember. We want to go places that make us better people, places that give us a new meaning of life, places that makes us feel like we belong in this fantastic world. I want to encourage these hopeful dreams by posting pictures of such places, every Saturday, that I have had the opportunity to explore. So, my fellow wanderers I hope these photos give you the determination and inspiration to get out there and LIVE!

This is my first picture: the Golden Gate bridge. I chose it because it emphasises my point; to get out and cross over bridges to new countries, experiences and adventures! Be inspired, fellow Wanderers!
